Artavian Baroque
Patrons: Dame Emma Kirkby & Anthony Rooley
Artavian Baroque was founded in 1994 by John Marston, a General Practitioner in Barnstaple, Devon, who, as a harpsichordist and fortepianist, had a special interest in music from the Baroque and early Classical periods, performed on original instruments.
He had earlier founded and directs an associated chamber choir, The Artavian Singers, which has since Covid been disbanded.
Artavian Baroque presents concerts throughout the year in and around North Devon, ranging from intimate recitals in private houses, often followed by a meal, to large works in various venues. We were associated with the North Devon Festival since its inception to its demise, and were honoured when Dame Emma Kirkby and Anthony Rooley agreed to be our Patrons.
The performers generously give their services free or for reduced fees, and we have been able to donate several thousand pounds to local charities over the years.
